Installation
The installation process of the Core-Contact Freezer couldn’t be any simpler. The clips that hold the fan is the most difficult part to do during the whole installation! The cooler already comes with a mounting system attached to its base. It’s plug and play for AMD sockets, but needs an additional bracket (which is included) for socket 775 to make it work.
The mounting system used on the Core-Contact Freezer is really simple to use. First you need to find out what type of socket you have. In case you’re using 775, like I am, than you will need to use the motherboard bracket. The bracket goes onto your motherboard. It’s secured by four pins that go through the motherboard holes. It keeps the bracket in place to keep the pressure on the processor when the cooler is tightened down.
If you are using an AMD 754/939/940/AM2 than you won’t have to use the motherboard bracket, since the AMD socket’s already have one pre-installed that’s compatible with the mounting clips on the Core-Contact Freezer. All you need to do is add some TX2 thermal compound onto the processor and secure the cooler in place using the two clips.
The cooler is pretty big, but Sunbeamtech says it’s pretty much compatible with any decent casing out there, which is true too. Regular cases are wider than 19cm or so, this cooler is about 15.5cm long, so it should fit just fine. Unless you have a casing with a large side mounted fan, such as the Thermaltake M9D we reviewed earlier. It was a tight fit, it worked, but it was tight though. You couldn’t use the side fan because it would make too much noise, being too close to the cooler.
