The Gelid Silent Spirit has a copper base with four copper heat pipes running through the core of the base towards the top of the cooler. The top of the cooler has aluminum fins and an 80mm fan mounted with Anti-Vibration Rubber Fan Mounts to keep vibrations to a minimum. The fins are arranged in a unique way to maximize the cooling effectiveness. The precise calculated fins arrangement and architecture can help the air from the cooling fan evenly flow and pass through all areas of the fins to maximize the air cooling performance.

The cooler fan is installed on the heatsink at an optimal position and angle to maximize the utilization of cooling air to cool the heatsink. Because the fan is on top of the cooler pointing towards the motherboard, it basically cools the surrounding of the socket as well.

The Gelid Silent Spirit has its fan powered and controlled by the computer’s bios. Through PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fans that perform at low noise levels by eliminating the power switching noise of the fan. The motor commutation noise is eliminated with high frequency PWM as the coils of the fan are being switched with a frequency above 20 kHz, which is outside the human audible range.

Although PWM should keep the fan noise at a minimum, the fact is. It depends on the setting in your bios. I tested this cooler with CPU temperature control off and on performance mode. The performance mode keeps the cooler as quiet as possible but it revs up as soon as the temperature increases. When it was turning on full speed it was quite noisy and definitely not quiet. But as soon as I turned on performance mode it made a huge difference. The fan keeps real quiet below 41 degrees Celsius, it then revs up and it does this again when the temperature reaches 44 degrees.
