Gelid has released their first cooler in their Silent range. It’s called the Gelid Silent Spirit and it’s a fairly compact cooler with 4 copper heat pipes, aluminum fins and a peculiar looking 80mm fan to keep things cool. If you look closely at the Silent Spirit it seems to resemble the way Arctic Cooling designs their coolers. The similarities are there because Gelid is a new business set up by one of the previous owners of Arctic Cooling.

The Silent Spirit is not as exciting as unpacking a cooler from Noctua. The bits and pieces are kept to a minimum, the cooler comes with two clips for AMD sockets, an instructions manual and a small case badge. This is a cost efficient solution that might outperform some of the more expensive coolers out on the market, for a fraction of the cost. The Silent Spirit is fully compatible with most new socket’s out there. It also has future compatibility for Intel’s new LGA 1366 socket, but Gelid will be releasing a new socket clip for this very soon.

The Gelid Silent Spirit is a PWM powered cooler, what this means is that the fan speed is controlled by the bios of your computer system. This should in theory let the fan run at near silent revolutions.
