Both the front panel and the top panel are removable. You actually need to remove the front panel before you can install additional drives, or remove the front bay plates. I eagerly tried to get the front off as shown in the manual, but I soon realized I began to lose my patience and temper at a quick rate and I began using a screwdriver and small pliers to push out the clips that hold the front panel to the chassis. It’s a poor construction to keep the front panel in place like that when you frequently need to remove the panel. I can imagine that some customer were actually able to rip off the clips out of anger because the manual said to pull and lift the front panel.

The top panel is a lot easier to remove and with a gentle pull on all the clips, it’s easily removed and ready to install two additional 120mm fans if you want to

The CM690 comes with a small box with a 5 1/4 to 3 1/2 bay plate for the installation of a floppy drive, or a similar size device in one of the front bays. This way you won’t be left with a gaping hole around the drive because the CM690 has to additional 3 1/2 bays. Not many users have 3 1/2 drives in their computer so this is basically a way to keep using your 3 1/2 drives. Inside the CM690 is a small sliding bracket which lets you mount on, or you can simply remove it and use the space for another 5 1/4 drive.

When you look at the inside of the case, you can see that the motherboard is moved up to the top, and the power supply down to the bottom. Below the spot where you mount the power supply, is another fan grill that basically lets the power supply fan does its job, otherwise the fan couldn’t suck up any air. Having the fan on the bottom of the case, without a fan filter does add more dust btw.
