Inside
The Antec Sonata like the Revoltec Zirconium is not the most spacious case available. It’s becoming a routine for me to rant on the removable motherboard tray. Since it’s not included. It makes installation so much easier, but only a few manufactures have removable trays in their cases these days. The sidepanel is easily dismounted and can be locked just like the front door to keep the inside away from anyone with loose fingers.
The case is made out of steel, it’s not the lightest case available but certainly not any heavier than most other cases. I could not find any sharp edges, maybe on spots where you are never going to be with your hands but these spots are all kept hidden away by curved edges.
All the drives are installed by using sliding brackets that lock into the case. You can install a total of 4 harddrives in this case. Each harddrive is first bolted onto the sliding cage before it goes inside the case. It makes installation easier and faster. The room for the cable to bend before it touches the sidepanel isn’t much, but turning the bracket the other way doesn’t work either, since the motherboard is in the way. It’s a space limited issue, but not something to be worried about.
The Sonata III 500 comes with an EarthWatts 500watts powersupply which is more than capable of handling all modern hardware. I’ve been using it for a while and I really liked it. It’s quiet, powerful and it has all the connections and cables you would need for a fully loaded system.
