Icemat

The normal Icemat will not work with optical mouses because of the transparent surface which will mess up the mouse coordination’s. I used a modified Intellimouse with a blue led and it didn’t work. After that I tested the Logitech MX500 from my dad with a standard red led, and it worked perfect! The mouse made almost a scratchy sound on the Icemat without the use of the Pad Surfers, but as soon as I added some surfers underneath the mouse it turned into a Super mouse on steroids.

Movement was way better, it felt better and the MX500, which is quite heavy, moved as a lighter mouse over the Icemat without any problems, and the reaction of the cursor was great too, gameplay was excellent, and the Icemat didn’t move an inch because of the special feet.

Conclusion

The IceMat is a shot in the bulls-eye. Maximum grip of the pad because of the Polyurethane feet, smooth movement because of the Pad Surfers, and a kickass design large enough to really get into a game. Be warned though it’s still glass, you drop it and it’ll most probably break, I’ve tested two mouses and only one worked, however if I still had a red led in the IntelliMouse it would’ve worked anyway!!. I’m quite sure any mouse of great quality with a red led would work but don’t sue me if it doesn’t work!.

Final Verdict

  • Custom design possible
  • Great looks
  • Works great
  • Pad Surfers work great too
  • Stable on my desk
  • Modified mouse ( blue led ) won’t work.
